Fun at Goebbert's!

Last Saturday, we continued our tradition of visiting Goebbert's Farm and Pumpkin Center. This year we met some friends and went to the Hampshire location which was less crowded and closer to home.  I'm sad that I didn't get my annual picture of Henry sitting amongst some pumpkins...such is the life of a 3 year old...Mr. Independent!

When we first arrived I was quite excited to get my picture taken in...
Papaw's "new" white TRUCK!

Henry was more excited to get his picture in...
this little old brown truck! It really was a tight fit for Henry to drive this truck.

All aboard, CHOO-CHOO!
Henry's always willing to get his picture aboard a train.

Next, we stumbled upon a miniature western town that was inhabited by...
BUNNY RABBITS!!!
Completely relaxed and enjoying the sunshine.

Look out, the Sheriff is in town!

Next, is always the highlight of visiting Goebbert's...at least for us adults.
Henry was more into running up and down the ramp this year.
Feeding the giraffe! The South Barrington location usually has 2 giraffes. We were happy with this one giraffe, since we actually had more one-on-one time feeding him, then we have had the last 2 years feeding 2 giraffes.

Next stop was animal land. Henry's usual favorite was the birds. He really does enjoy seeing chickens (and feeding them at the Hoke's), ducks, parrots and here he also saw very pretty pheasant and ostrich's ("they don't fly, Daddy") too.

Joe and I's favorite were these animals:
Pantagonian Maras
They looked like giant rabbits with very skinny legs.

We also saw kanagaroo's (they are very soft), black bears, oxen, camel, baby tigers, pigs, cows and so much more!

We enjoyed the pig races again this year. We saw 4 races. First the ladies (4 pigs), then the men (4 pigs) then the international (4 pigs) and best of all we saw the men and lady pigs (8) racing together. That was funny. No pics of that excitement this year. They go by to fast to get a good picture, hahaha!

Silly western Werth's!

We were going to take Henry on the train ride around the farm but we opted to go on a hay ride out to the pumpkin patch instead. This way we could all ride for FREE! Henry loves going on tractor rides.
Bob, was lucky enough to ride along with us.
He was really lucky he had a lap to sit on, so he didn't have to sit on the wet hay.

Henry and Jen having fun on the hay ride.

Wow, what a muddy mess we rode through to get to the pumpkin patch. Luckily, the pumpkin patch wasn't filled with super squishy mud.
We didn't even pick a pumpkin here, but we still had fun adventuring out to the patch.

We also witnessed some pumpkin launchings. The targets were an old camper or Volkswagon Beetle out in a corn field. Better luck next time, as we did not see any hits.

A good time was had by all.
We were going to go out for lunch afterwards but Henry was worn out. He fell asleep within 5 minutes of us leaving. When we got home he even survived a transfer and continued his nap for another hour or so on the couch.

  1. The pictures in all the vehicles are awesome. I can't believe how many animals they have there. It is like a little zoo. Fun, fun, fun! We went for a super muddy hay ride last week too, I was just hoping we didn't get stuck because I sure didn't want to have to get off in the middle of the muck.
