...YIKES!
Wow, where has the time gone? We now have a THREE year old in our house!
Henry - 2 days old
My sister Jennie came up with her whole crew (there are 6 of them now), the first weekend of October to celebrate her youngest, Mary's FIRST bithday and Henry's THIRD birthday. Mary's 1st birthday was actually on October 6th.
First, we had lunch at Red Robin. We got there right when it opened at 11 AM.
Henry adamantly picked out his lunch, a cheeseburger and by-gosh he ate the whole thing!
After lunch we went back to Papaw-Nana's for cake and presents. We forgot to get ice cream :( .
Henry was quite proud of the balloons, I picked out for our little party.
(Isn't the sweatshirt Henry's wearing, great? A letterman style jacket. Another great garage sale bargain.)
Nana was quite proud of the Red Velvet cake she made...NOT...bought for Henry and Mary. 3 candles for Henry and 1 for Mary.
Mary dug right into her cake!
Mary post-cake eating. Not bad. She actually kept the hat on too. Jennie tweaked the hat for Mary. She removed the blue puffs and added the pink ones. I'm sure this won't be the first time Jennie tweaks blue/boy items to make it more Mary friendly.
See Mary's little teeth. She definitely has fewer teeth then Henry had at his first birthday. Henry had TWELVE teeth at age ONE. After the first few, the rest came in quickly with not much fuss too.
Whoa, look what Andy picked out for Henry. Aunt Jennie said, Andy's been talking about Henry needing a trailer truck for quite awhile now. Two peas in a pod, these two will be growing up.
Whoa, Mary likes the little vanity set Joe and I got her. All of Jennie's boys, including her husband Joe are still getting over the shock of PINK toys being added to their house. Papaw-Nana got Mary a great girly gift too a walker stroller. She needs it since she isn't walking yet.
Whoa, Henry got his new white truck from Papaw. For a few months now (since Papaw got his "new" 1940 Ford Classic Truck) Henry has been saying, "Papaw needs to get us a new white truck." He said this since we were lucky to find a yellow '69 Chevy toy truck just like Papaw's first classic truck.
Well, he got it! Papaw and Nana found the '40 Ford truck at a store only it was RED. So, Papaw bought some paint and got to work. Nana said it took Papaw a few days to completely dismantle the truck and paint it all white. Wow, thanks Papaw it looks great.
Henry was being a stinker for this picture...see he doesn't always smile.
On 10/10 we celebrated Henry's birthday again since it was his actual birthday.
The cake I baked, cooling. Joe was excited to find Hank's Cream Soda one day.
Apparently, my bundt pan is a tad small for a boxed
(like I have time to make one from scratch, nor would I know how too) angel food cake.
The finished product. Papaw & Nana came over to have cake and ice cream with us.
MMM...it was very tasty.
We saved a few presents for his actual birthday. Looks like his new bean bag will be a good reading spot. He's reading his new Packers football book.
Whoa, Daddy thought of a great gift idea for Henry. A roll of quarters.
He loves to fill his "penny" bank as he calls it.
Woohoo, lots of quarters.
Henry really liked filling up his "penny" bank.
We are thrilled to report that Henry has done a great job with his potty training. Back in August, he demanded to wear underwear to school and since then we've only dealt with a few accidents here and there. Woohoo, such a big boy we now have in our house. I'm super happy to NOT have to buy diapers anymore. I quickly ran out and bought more underwear!
As you see, we also finally transitioned Henry to a big boy bed. We were lucky, he NEVER tried to climb out of his crib. Once again Henry asked to sleep on the floor one night and away he went to his big boy bed. Of course, we'll eventually get a bed frame for him but for now this works. We shouldn't be surprised since Henry always decides when he's ready to transition to the next step. The first time, was at 5 months when he decided he didn't want a pacifier anymore. Then 2 days before his first birthday he stopped breast feeding. So far, all of these decisions have been great for us.
Finally, I'd like to state for the record that this year was the first year the weather wasn't 80 degrees for Henry's birthday. It was the appropriate fall weather.

It looks like Henry had a birthday "week" kind of like his Mom usually has. Papaw and Nana enjoyed all the fun.
ReplyDeleteI love the quarter idea for his penny bank. Henry looks thrilled!
ReplyDeleteGood job, Papaw, on painting the truck. I hadn't heard that story.
Happy birthday, Big Boy!
Happy Birthday Henry! A roll of quarters is a great idea. We could use them here for 50 cent slushies which are now over until baseball season starts again in April. I haven't made an angel food cake in a long time, I should. Great update!
