4th of July Weekend!

We had an action packed weekend which did NOT include a visit to the cabin...
Why we didn't go to the cabin for the 4th of July this year!  Sadly, we haven't been to the cabin once yet this year as a result of the mighty Mississippi River not cooperating.  It's for this very reason that we haven't felt like it should be the 4th of July already.

3rd of July Fun!
On Thursday night, Henry went to his first car show of the year with Papaw in his 1936 Ford truck.

Papaw and Henry received many comments/compliments on their matching attire.  Papaw had to correct quite a few comments about Henry's shirt matching Papaw's.  Henry actually had his shirt FIRST, then Papaw got one to match.  They both wore their signed Edelbrock hats too.  What a pair!

Precious!

Henry and I liked this car with its matching trailer.

Check out what Henry got to do...
He looks good!  Papaw knew the guy.
Henry also honked the horn of another classic car.
A fun night for all.  Notice how Henry crossed his leg like Papaw's?

4th of July Fun!
We went to the "Eyes of the Sky" Hot Air Balloon festival in Lisle.
Of course one of the first things we saw when we walked in was a classic police car.

The weather was beautiful, low 70's and NO humidity.

After a bit of a wait time, the balloons started to launch.
Up, up and...
away!

Later the character balloons arrived...

Henry's favorite balloon.  The character balloons didn't launch.

Henry also rode a few carnival rides and ate his 1st elephant ear (we all ate some).
We didn't stay for the balloon glow or the fireworks since we had a fun and late night planned for Saturday night.  We wanted to get home kind of early.  We enjoyed seeing many fireworks on our drive home including a grand finale.

Happy 4th of July!
We did have time to stop for a cool treat on our way home.

5th of July Fun!
On Saturday night we went to Papaw and Nana's for an all American feast of hamburgers, corn on the cob, hash browns (patties on the grill are great, try it!), watermelon and rice krispie treats for dessert.

Then the boys headed to the Sycamore Speedway for some plain ol' boy fun!  When we told Henry about this adventure he said, "YES!" multiple times and pumped his fist too!

After dodging flying mud to get to their seats, Papaw said Henry was grinning ear to ear and the cars were just warming up.

Good times!
It lightly sprinkled while they were there so it really wasn't too dusty.

Before each race they all picked a car to win.  Henry picked the winner 3 times.  Papaw didn't have as good as luck and Henry rubbed it in too with his heckling.  Hmm...who does he get this from...?

The fireworks were decent.  Henry really liked an American flag firework.

For having to come up with alternative ideas for our 4th of July weekend plans we did just fine!

My sister Jennie came up with plenty of fun alternative ideas for their weekend too.
Here's George, Zack, Jennie, (cousin) Amy and Mary having fun at a Cardinals game in some SUITE seats courtesy of her Joe's employer.

We hope everybody enjoyed their 4th of July holiday too!
