Silly Dr. Seuss Fun and More...!

Henry, is really enjoying the snow this year!
Snow angel fun!

This past week Henry's daycare celebrated Dr. Seuss's birthday by doing wacky things each day:

Monday: Pajama day
Tuesday: Mis-matched socks day
Wednesday: Wacky clothes day
Thursday: Hat day
Friday: Celebrate Dr. Seuss's birthday, day

On Friday, Henry wore a Green Eggs & Ham shirt.  For lunch that day they ate green eggs and ham and every kid in Henry's class tried some and ate it too, wow!

Henry's class invited parents to come in and read their favorite Dr. Seuss book in the morning or the afternoon each day.  Since Joe and I couldn't fit any readings into our schedules we thought it was a perfect thing for Nana to do.   When Nana reads books she really gets into them and is often quite animated.  Nana chose to read her and Papaw's favorite book, "The Berenstains B Book".  It's technically not a Dr. Seuess book but it is part of the Cat in the Hat series of books.  Nana was allowed to read it.  Henry's teachers had never read it, nor had any of the kids in Henry's class.  They all really enjoyed it.  Papaw and Nana have this book memorized after reading if for many years to my sisters and I and now their grandkids.  Next time I'm going to video them reading it.  They don't even need the book. "...big brown bear, blue bull, beautiful baboon, blowing bubbles biking backward..."!  Thanks, Nana!

Here's Henry's Wacky Wednesday attire.  They painted the kids faces at school that day too.  Henry said he wanted a kitty face.  There were only 1 or 2 whiskers left on his face when I picked him up that night.  What a fun week at school for all!

On Saturday, we did our usual running around on errands.  Henry likes to go to stores.  He's sad when he doesn't get to go anywhere when we're home on the weekends.  When we pulled into the parking lot of this store...(guess which one)...he told us he didn't like it!

Well him not liking this store didn't last long!

As we were walking around one of the employees asked if we were going to build a racecar in the (FREE) workshop that morning?  We didn't know what she was talking about so we decided to check it out.  We knew we were getting close to the workshop when we heard a lot of hammering.  At first, Henry told us it was too loud and he didn't want to join in.  So, we headed for the registers, then he quickly changed his mind.

First, we had to glue the two pieces of the car together.

Second, we had to nail in some little finishing nails.

Next, was Henry's favorite part, installing the wheels.

This is the part when all that noisy hammering is heard!

Putting the finishing touches on the race car!

When Henry first walked up to the workshop he asked, "what kind of table is this?"  Then he was confused by the bucket seating.  Hahaha!

All done, vroom, vroom!

Yup, we were at Home Depot!  What a great idea.
We'll definitely come back for some other workshops.  They have one every month.

  1. We had a fun time at Henry's school. I was surprised they hadn't read the "B" book. Looks like Henry really got in to building his car. He looks quite proud.

  2. So glad you discovered the workshops at Home Depot. We used to go a lot in Austin. Tried 2 different times to go to one at the Lowe's out here and failed. Wrong weekend one time, another time we signed up for the wrong store and they wouldn't let us do it (yes, they actually made us sign up because it's so popular apparently). Can't say I've been back to Lowe's since.

Sounds like they had a great Dr. Seuss week. Benjamin had silly hat day on Friday. They also got to bring in their favorite Dr. Seuss books all week. Good stuff.

  3. Fun, fun. We have the Wacky Wednesday book. The kids always get a kick out of it when we actually remember to read it on Wednesdays. I like the car you made Henry, vroom vroom!
