Memorial Day Weekend

Hahaha, this is our new favorite pic of Jimmy! Love it!

We went to the Hested cabin for Memorial Day weekend this year.  Too bad it wasn't sunny and warm like last year.  Instead it was rainy and cool all weekend long.  We were literally checking our phones for the hourly weather forecast.  When we saw it wasn't going to rain for a couple hours we would send the kids outside to play.

Henry really enjoyed his first time on the bag swing; a favorite past time for kids at the cabin.

When he gets bigger or maybe when he's 6 (as Henry likes to put an age on everything he can do when he gets bigger) he can climb the ladder to swing really high.

Weeeeeeeeee!

See how high the river was? Not much beach this spring.  The river was still in the yards of our neighbors a few doors down from our cabin.

Mary Margaret was so cute all weekend long even if she wouldn't smile for any of my pictures.  She really liked Joe.  She would often bring her "babies" to Joe.  Aw, so cute.

My sister came prepared for the rainy weekend with lots of games to play.  Our nephew Zack had 2 game tournaments going all weekend long.  We still don't know why 2 brackets were necessary but we all had fun.  The only rule was that the younger player had the advantage of choosing what game would be played.  The games included: Sequence, Kids Sequence, Yahtzee, Uno, Dominoes, Cribbage, Sorry, Blokus, Old Maid and Go Fish.  We also had Scrabble and Battleship but nobody picked those to play during the tourny.

George and Joe playing Yahtzee

George and Nana playing Uno.  Zack watching closely or stretching?

Look, Mary and Papaw are playing Old Maid!

Andy (5), Henry (3.5) and Joe playing Sorry.

Henry and Nana took a break to make some brownies, mmm!
Henry loves to help out in the kitchen.

This was our 3rd round of Uno.  Joe and I won the first 2 rounds rather quickly so we decided to play a 3rd round only it kept going and going and going...we all finally gave up.

Henry playing Cribbage...not yet but soon.  He was learning about cards in general.
He called the Spades "trees" and the Clubs "clovers".

See, it really was cold since we never opened up the canvas covers on the screened in porch.  We also had 2 heaters running the whole time on the porch, burrrr!

One of the winners of the Game Tourny was me...but of course!
A game weekend is my kind of weekend!
Zack (almost 10) was the winner of the other tournament.

The cousins: Henry (3.5), Andy (5), Zack (9), Mary (19 mths), George (7)

We can't wait for our next visit to the cabin this SUMMER so we can enjoy more outdoor activities.

  1. It was a perfect Jalene weekend, playing games! It was fun spending time with everyone and the kids did well together, no real problems. My Joe and I played Scrabble early in the tournament, I think you guys arrived while we were finishing the game. I beat Joe but it was closer than I would have liked. Henry's brownies were yummy. Nice update!
