Christmas Traditions

The countdown to Christmas is on!  This past weekend we enjoyed fun Christmas festivities.  We started the weekend off with Breakfast with Santa at Henry's school.

Henry told Santa he wants Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

 Our good little elf!
Henry enjoyed making Christmas crafts.

After lunch we headed to Bass Pro to check out Santa's Wonderland.  They advertised a FREE photo with Santa or as Henry read on the flyer, P-HOT-O (hilarious, it took Joe a minute to realize what he was saying) and all kinds of other activities.

My boys "driving" a Bad Boys 4 wheeler.

The FREE P-HOT-O attracted many people.  We were given a time card for when we could get in line to see Santa.  We walked in around 2:15 PM and were given a Santa ticket for 4:30. Yikes, almost a 2 hour wait to get back in line.
We found quite a few ways to kill time in other areas of the Wonderland and in other areas of the store too.

 Don't get any ideas, Henry!

Looks like a very cozy ice fishing hut.

Still waiting for our time to get in line for Santa.  We walked around the area and went to a couple other stores outside of Bass Pro.  At 4:15 we returned to Santa's Wonderland with our 4:30 PM ticket, to find that the 4:00 PM Santa line was still quite long and barely moving.

After standing in a line that barely moved for 30 minutes we convinced Henry we didn't need to see this Santa.  We visited other activity areas and then left to get some dinner.  Phewee.  When we were leaving just before 5 PM, new people were arriving and receiving an 8 PM Santa ticket, yikes!  The Santa visit "organized" process did not seem to be working very well.

Sunday morning we started making cookies.  We started with Spritz cookies.
Mmm...you can definitely taste the butter in these cookies.
 Henry was a great helper.

 Time for the fun part!

 Such focus and determination.
 Aha, look at that!

Adding the finishing touch!

On Sunday afternoon we went to Blackberry Farm for the Polar Express event.  The farm closes for the season at the end of October and reopens for the weekends leading up to Christmas in December.  The weather was quite "warm" for mid-December weather, it was gloomy and wet at 48 degrees but that didn't stop us and many others from enjoying the holiday festivities.  This event is also how we convinced Henry to NOT see Santa on Saturday afternoon.  Nobody, really needs to see Santa 3 times.
We only waited 35 minutes total to see this Santa.

After seeing Santa we went for a ride on the Polar Express train.
Luckily, we didn't have to wait too long for this ride.
 Silly boys!

After we knocked out the 2 main attractions we were free to do whatever we wanted.  As always Henry really enjoyed playing in the "Candy Cane Village" a.k.a. the tree house play area.  This area really is a great addition to the farm.

Tis the season!
