Henry's 1st Memorial Day Weekend!

First things first:

is he cute or what?

He's the latest 4 legged animal to be added to Joe's brothers family. A purebred Chocolate Lab. On a recent visit to Joe's brothers house Henry was easily entertained by the dogs and his cousins.

Henry enjoyed his first Memorial Day weekend at the Hested cabin in Bellevue, Iowa which was also his first time to the cabin. He was so fascinated by all the "new" sounds, mostly nature and lots of motorcycles driving by up on the road, that he failed to take any decent naps. The longest nap was 30 minutes which started on a boat ride. Oh well, we'll hope for better luck next time. He did sleep through the nights, which included trains going by (literally) right behind the cabin. I guess Henry was trying to show us he only needed super short power naps since he was a happy baby all weekend. No worries once we were back home from the cabin Henry's first nap was a SUPER LONG NAP at 3 1/2 hours !

Henry experienced many firsts while at the cabin such as:

- Sitting in the beloved sky-chair with Grandpa:

He thought it was the funniest thing whenever Grandpa would push with his foot off the ground and even more funny when his feet would brush over a tall weed. Henry laughed and laughed that super cute baby laugh while swinging in the sky-chair with Grandpa.

- Swinging in a baby swing:


- Sitting and swinging in Grandpa's other favorite chair at the cabin, the hammock chair:

- Going for a boat ride that finally knocked him out for a nap that lasted longer than 10 minutes:


- Eating, or attempting to eat, some real food:
- Cheerios, they came back out slimy and they were still hard to pick up
- mashed up cantaloupe
- a piece of cinnamon roll, mmm...he kept most of that in his mouth
- Best of all was vanilla ice cream...mmm...!

*Henry was quite dramatic with his gagging if anything with texture or some kind of form besides liquid or mush got near his throat! He has a lot to learn and soon eating will be even more fun for all.

Henry is getting really close to crawling so next time he goes to the cabin Grandma and Grandpa better be ready for a baby on the move. We witnessed Henry doing some girl-like push-ups so crawling can't be to much longer.

We really look forward to our next visit since we didn't get much yard time in, which meant no bean bags or napping in the hammock since the weather was more like 4th of July weather.



At one point Grandpa said, "Henry you are better than a campfire," as we all sat inside in the cool air conditioning watching Henry.
